Blue Ridge Mountains at golden hour

Virginia Blue Ridge Vacation Rentals

Stay at the foot of the mountains. Hike the Parkway by day, relax in a real home by night.

The Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge is the eastern front of the Appalachians, stretching from Georgia to Pennsylvania. In central Virginia, the mountains rise just west of Lynchburg, making it one of the closest cities with full amenities and easy access to the ridgeline.

The Blue Ridge Parkway, America's most visited national parkway, passes through the region with overlooks, trails, and visitor centers. Peaks of Otter lodge sits at milepost 86 with Sharp Top, one of the most photographed mountains in Virginia, right behind it. From our property in Lynchburg, you can reach the Parkway in 25 minutes and Peaks of Otter in 45.

The region is at its best in autumn when the hardwoods turn, but spring wildflowers, summer swimming holes along the James River, and winter solitude on empty trails all have their draw.

When to Visit

Spring (March - May)

Dogwoods and redbuds bloom along the Parkway. Liberty University graduation brings families in May. Temperatures climb from the 50s into the 70s. Trails are green but not yet crowded.

Summer (June - August)

Highs in the 80s with cooler mountain evenings. The James River is prime for kayaking and tubing. Farmers markets run weekly downtown. Longer days mean more Parkway time.

Fall (September - November)

Peak season. Foliage peaks mid-October along the Parkway. Liberty family weekends drive demand. Apple orchards open. Book early: this is when everyone wants to be here.

Winter (December - February)

Quiet and affordable. Snow dusts the higher elevations. Holiday markets in downtown Lynchburg. Best rates of the year. Pack layers and enjoy the solitude.
